Social care for adults is changing. Under the new national system of social care, people can get their social care and support in a range of ways.

They have the freedom to control the type of assistance they receive, and who they receive it from. This means more flexibility for those that need help. They could use different businesses and services in their local area to help them live as independently as possible for longer in their own homes.

To make the most of this opportunity, people who are buying their own care, whether funded by social care or privately may choose to employ a personal assistant who can provide the exact care and support that they need when they need it so that they can continue to live independently in their own homes.

In association with Derby City Council we have created an Online Register for all Personal Assistants who support disabled/older people and are looking for further work.

The aim of the Register is to make it easier for Customers to find Personal Assistants and for Personal Assistants to have a place to advertise their skills and availability, therefore creating a more productive service.

Anyone interested in becoming a PA or looking for extra work can register themselves on the site by filling in an application form. The applications are published on the site and some details are available for a prospective employer to search through. The employer can then contact the PA directly and arrange a convenient time and place for an interview.

Name, contact details, experience, hobbies, areas willing to work, rates of preferred pay and more. Follow the link below to take a look.

Yes, training is being provided for a fee by Derby City Council for anyone who requires it and is on the register.

The training includes:

  • Introduction to Social Care
  • Basic Moving & Handling
  • Working Safely
  • Food Hygiene Awareness
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Putting Dignity at the Heart of Social Care

You can access funding for training through Skills for Care http://www.skillsforcare.org.uk/Home.aspx
